Robert George Worthington I, age 79, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014, at the Open Arms Hospice McCall House, Simpsonville, SC. He is the son of Leroy George Worthington, and Roberta Telford (Walsh) Worthington, both deceased. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Helen (Ashcroft) Worthington; his children: Joyce C. Worthington, Robert A. Worthington with his wife Beth, and Scott B. Worthington with his wife Thelma; grandchildren: J. Travis Caseldine, Jesse Caseldine, Seanna Caseldine, Trevor Caseldine, Chad Caseldine, Crystal Reid, Sharon Worthington, Robert G. Worthington II, Cheryl Worthington, Brian Worthington, Sarah Strzelski, Graham Worthington, Evan Worthington, Emmett Worthington and Clayton Worthington; 7 great grand children; his brother, Alan Worthington with his wife Cynthia, his sister, Gail Kuhlkin with her husband William and his brother Bruce, whose wife Kathy is recently deceased. He was born and raised in Huntingdon Valley, PA. He served in the Army from 1956-57, then went to The King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, NY, graduating from Elon College in Greensboro, NC with a bachelor’s degree in education. He married Nancy Ashcroft, August, 1957. He worked at W. W. Adcock’s in the pool industry and later won national recognition for his pool designs as a joint owner of Center Valley Pool Co/ Master Pools. He began working as a teacher, principal, and administrator for Faith Christian Academy in Sellersville. He earned his master’s degree in education from Tennessee Temple College in 1985, and pursued a doctorate in school administration at Bob Jones University. In 1990, he became pastor of Open Bible Baptist Church of Cobleskill, NY, where he remained for 15 years. He had a passion for serving the Lord working predominately with young people, teaching, training and discipling. His years counseling and coaching helped shape lives to glorify God. His years of ministry in Cobleskill were spent developing meaningful relationships with those from his church, and community and building cooperation with like-minded ministries in his area. He was an all-around athlete who “settled” for the game of golf, never proficient, but good enough to give those with whom he played a “run for their money.” We will all miss him and will want to uphold his wife, Nancy, his best friend and companion of 57 years. A viewing will be held at Choice Hills Baptist Church located at 5910 Old Buncombe Rd., Greenville, SC 29609, on Tuesday evening, Dec 9, at 5:00 PM with a service at 7:00 PM.
