Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Julaine Odom can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Julaine Sumner Odom

Julaine Sumner Odom died on December 30, 2016 at age 78 following a 25 year battle with a rare lung disease. Born in Parrish, Alabama, on January 26, 1938, she was a church musician in three states over 30 year. A Certified Professional Secretary, her last position was 13 years at Cryovac. Juliane was a devoted wife of more than 60 years and an amazing grandmother. Julaine is survived by her husband and care giver David I. Odom of the home along with her sons and their families, David and Lynn Odom of Durham, NC and Terry and Tiffany Odom of Simpsonville, SC. Her devoted grandchildren are Jonathan, Phillip, Liz, Stephen, Hannah and Caroline. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vaughn and Lois Thompson Sumner and her sister Eva Nell Sumner.

A celebration of life will be held at her church, First Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:00 am led by Rev. Kendra Plating with visitation following. A graveside service will be held at the Gray Cemetery (Odom Memorial Church), Parrish, Alabama, on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the Triune Mercy Center 222 Rutherford Street, Greenville, SC 29609 or the building fund of First Baptist Church, Greenville, SC, or charity of your choice.
