Obituary for William Henry Cox Jr.

William Henry  Cox Jr.
William Henry Cox Jr., 77, of Mauldin, went to be with the Lord after suffering a brain aneurysm on Saturday, May 6, 2017.

Bill was born in Morgan, Georgia, a natural hunter and fisherman who loved to roam the swamps and woods of his rural home in Georgia. After graduating high school, he enlisted with the US Navy and served on several ships based in Japan, his favorite deployment being aboard the USS John S. McCain, where he was stationed for three and a half years in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

While in Hawaii, he met his wife Liz, from Portland, Oregon, on the beach at Waikiki, and it was love at first sight.

He graduated from Georgia Tech with an Associate's Degree in Electronics, and retired from Michelin Corporation after 23 years of service. After his retirement, he also worked for Hewlett Packard for several years.

Hunting and fishing aside, Bill was an avid archer, and was the Georgia State Target Champion in 1969.

Bill was also involved in amateur Ham Radio, his station WB4TBF allowed him to make contact with US Astronauts and Russian Cosmonauts several times.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Katherine Seitz Cox; his daughters, Robin Marie Alexander and husband Jay, and Angela Beth Karpinski and husband Dennis; and his three grandchildren, William James Alexander V, Matthew James Alexander, and Nicholas Hayes Karpinski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Cox Sr. and Minnie Lee Morris Cox of Calhoun County, Georgia; and his sister, Peggy Angeline Cox Martin.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 3:30 pm at Mauldin United Methodist Church, with the memorial service following at 4:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; or Mauldin United Methodist Church.
