WEMR and the Blizzard of 96

I can still picture Norm 21 years later hanging out the back window of WERM with his cigarette. Greeted at 5:30 by his huge laugh or a quick snarl, depending on the day, Norm was always quick with a one liner or funny antedote and willing to share. While I may have been too serious about my job back then, he was a true team player always willing to listen, share a gripe and supportive in questionable times. The one nemory tho that stands out most -- the blizzard of 96. Roads in NEPA were not by any means fit for driving. I stayed at the Prince hotel the night before and was encouraged not to try to go up Mile Hill by the guys shoveling the parking lot...but I did it anyway, not knowing if Norm would be able to make the trek from the valley. Well I made it up Mile Hill but only maybe 20 feet into the extremely long driveway with my Labaron Convertible to the radio station. There my car sat stuck and I proceded to walk to the work, thinking Norm may already be in, cause he was normally early. I get there and no Norm. Would he even make it with his van? I took cancellation calls, waiting for him to call and say he wasn't making it. Next thing I know here comes a snow covered frozen Norm Hill walking through the door. I felt so bad, I couldn't apologize enough but he never complained, not once and went on with the show. However he did leave before I could even ask him to help dig me out. I thought for sure he'd hate me forever but he didn't. I will always remember his easy going attitude, his great sense of humor, and devious smile. May your family forever be blessed with beauiful memories and much laughter.
