Obituary for Cleda Raad (Turner)

Cleda Raad (Turner)
On November 29, 2017 Cleda Fay (Turner) Raad, 83, left her earthly body to join her
husband, Edward Eugene Raad, in Heaven. Cleda lived a great life –full of love, laughter and
most importantly, family. She was fortunate enough to have married the love of her life,
raise four wonderful, brilliant and beautiful daughters who gave her eleven (equally
wonderful, brilliant and beautiful) grandchildren. Her impeccably decorated home was
always a safe haven for family and friends. Cleda made a lasting impression on everyone she
met – starting from the first day she was born! Cleda Fay made her grand entrance into the
life of her parents Nathaniel Johnson Turner and Sarah Elizabeth Berkley Turner on
September 8, 1934. Her birth was certainly a celebration! She started life in Middleborough,
KY, as the center of her parent’s world. Cleda was stunning, smart, a great judge of character
and was never afraid to speak her mind. Lucky for the family, Cleda passed these traits on
down through the genes!

When Edward Raad first laid eyes on our beautiful Cleda Fay, he immediately said
he was going to marry her (little did he know what he was in for!). We are happy to say that
Eddie was right - in the summer of 1951 at the young ages of 16 and 19, those two love
birds got married! They wasted little time before starting on their first of many great
adventures – the birth of their daughter, Beverly. Over the next four years Cleda and Eddie
would welcome two more healthy and beautiful baby girls, Susan and Tricia! By the spring
of 1961 the Raads had completed their family with the birth of their fourth daughter,
Catherine. Over the next 60 plus years, this loving family of 6 would grow exponentially,
eventually leading to the birth of 11 grandchildren and, 7 great-grandchildren (and still

The love that was cultivated by Cleda and Eddie over their 63 years of marriage is
most evident at the big, loud, chaotic family get-togethers. Take a step inside Cleda’s house
at any family gathering and you will immediately feel the overwhelming love and adoration
the Raad family has for one another. Cleda lived a great life and left countless memories for
her family to recount for generations to come. She had a real relationship with her Lord and
Savior, Jesus Christ and was an avid student of the Word of God. Her faith, love and kind
heart will forever be remembered. This isn’t “good-bye”, it’s “see you later”.
Cleda Raad is survived by her four daughters, Beverly Wirgau and her husband Earl
Jr. of Simpsonville, Susan Modesitt of Summerville, Tricia Orcutt and her husband Jeff of
Simpsonville, and Catherine Sever and her husband Eric of Simpsonville; Grandchildren E.J.
Wirgau (Shannen), Daniel Wirgau (Carissa), Sarah Modesitt, Jesse Modesitt (Carly), Edward
Modesitt, Mary Orcutt-Horton (Jared), Cressman Orcutt, Benjamin Sever, Katelyn Sever
(Chris), Christina Sever and Josie Sever; Great-Grandchildren, Alizabeth Wirgau, Brendan
Wirgau, William Wirgau, Judah Wirgau, Amelia Modesitt and Avalynn Sever.

what God has prepared for those who love him.”
