Obituary for Betty Elrod Spann (Hairston)

Betty Hairston Elrod Spann, 83, of Greenville, SC, died December 28, 2017, following a valent two year battle with cancer. Born in Greenwood, to the late Virgil and Eleanor Robinson Hairston, she was predeceased by husbands W. William "Bill" Elrod Sr., and O. Leroy "Roy" Spann.

She is survived by her children; Cyndi E. Kerns (David) of Greenville, W. William "Bill" Elrod (Kathi) of Auburndale, Florida and Lesley E. Crozier (Stan) of McDonough, Georgia and bonus daughter Juli Spann Rivers (Stephen). She is also survived by grandchildren Ashley Kerns Brown (Emily), Betsy Kerns, Courtney Elrod Radel (Russell), Lauren Elrod Stephens (Caleb), Jeffrey Crozier (Kathleen), Katherine Crozier (Matthew), Ben, Caroline, Allie Grace and Erica Rivers, three great granddaughters; Piper and Hollis Stephens and Crosby Radel and her brothers Wayman Hairston and Hogan Hairston.

A bookkeeper by trade, Betty was a former member of Eastlan Baptist Church and a present member of Taylors First Baptist Church. She loved to travel and spent many fun times traveling the United States and Europe.

Her favorite trips were to England, Scotland and Ireland where she visited the ancestral home of her great grandparents.

Visitation will be held Sunday December 31, 2017 at 2pm, and service to follow at 3pm at Palmetto Mortuary at 1017 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC.

Memorial may be made to Open Arms Hospice, McCall Hospice House.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alex Yang, Mary and Sarah, Open Arms Hospice Care, ComForCare and all of her caregivers, especially Lynne Anderson.
