Obituary for Guy Van Natta

Guy Cornelius Scibenas Van Natta, 83, of Greenville, SC, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 20 after valiantly fighting several major medical complications for months.
Born in Louisville, KY, he was the son of the late Mildred Catherine Polston and the late Earl Van Natta of Louisville, KY.
Surviving are sisters, Norma J. Liston, Dora J. Mattingly, and Mary F. Breeden of Louisville, KY; brother, Carl E. Van Natta (Judy) of Greenville; daughter, Katherine V. Kreft (Jon) of Liberty; sons, Dennis L. Chapman (Lenay) and Guy C. S. Van Natta, Jr. of Greenville; grandchildren, Kayla D. Chapman, Crissy G. Chapman, Haley A. Kreft, Jamie J. Chapman, Calleigh E. Kreft, and Caroline A. Kreft; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Debra Dianne Vaughan; daughters, Debby C. White and Audrey E. Chapman; son, Timothy L. Chapman; and grandson, Jeremy K. White, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Mr. Van Natta was known for his love of horticulture, bird watching, and poetry. He always considered the needs of others before himself, living modestly, but showing much generosity in helping many people throughout his life. Mr. Van Natta proudly served his country for 11 years with the Air Force. At 80 years old, Mr. Van Natta finally decided he should retire from his beloved position at 3M company.
Visitation will be January 26, 2018 from 10 to 12 at New Life Baptist Church at 2690 W Blue Ridge Dr, Greenville, SC 29611. The funeral service will follow at 12. Burial will be at Greenville Memorial Gardens immediately after the service. The family will continue to receive friends at New Life Baptist Church at 4 pm that afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Van Natta would appreciate his loved ones memorialize his life by random acts of kindness to those around them.
