Obituary for James Wright Jr.

James Wright Jr.
James (Jimmy) Watson Wright, Jr. went to Heaven peacefully in his home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on June 2, 2018.
Jimmy was born on May 2, 1935 to James Watson Wright, Sr. and Lillian Eubanks Wright in Johnston, South Carolina. Jimmy attended Clemson University and graduated 1957 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Upon graduation Jimmy served in the United States Army Reserves. Jimmy married his best friend and the love of his life, Sandra Corder on February 17, 1962 in Cayce, South Carolina. Sandra was a city girl that Jimmy brought to the country while Jimmy operated the family dairy farm. Jimmy had a love for the land and a passion to learn new skills. Jimmy earned his pilot license and served in the Civil Air Patrol.
In 1978 Jimmy brought his family to Greenville, South Carolina to begin a ministry and founded North Greenville Christian Fellowship in Travelers Rest. Jimmy had a passionate love for his Savior Jesus Christ, and he always loved and respected everyone he met. He always made it priority to bless others and to lift them up in prayer before parting. He was God’s “minute man” taking immediate action to reach out to those in need. So many times Jimmy stopped to assist stranded motorists to ensure their safety.
Later in life Jimmy owned a commercial real estate company with his wife as his partner. Being a giver and servant to others, Jimmy dedicated his time to the South Carolina Constable Association from January 1996 until December 2015. He helped spearhead changes in SLED’s policies and state law concerning the training and use of Constables. He took great delight serving alongside his wife Sandra with their law enforcement family on the weekends. Jimmy earned the rank of Colonel and Executive Director, and he retired with honors and great appreciation for his service and dedication.
In his later years Jimmy was blessed to have great care givers. When in the hospital Jimmy’s room was the favorite for the nurses and CNA’s. While in ICU following surgery Jimmy’s spirit continuously reached out to pray for his care givers. Jimmy was always in the “adoption business” as he drew so many into his love. He loved to pour his love and joy into people. Jimmy was known for his quick wit and his humor, and he would always have a joke to make you smile. His presence and his voice will be dearly missed.
During 56 years of marriage Jimmy partnered with his wife during farming, real estate, ministry and constable service. Jimmy was a loving and devoted husband, father and was “AmPa” to his only grandson Clay. Jimmy loved to bless others with words of encouragement and prayer, and he was a giving man. He always saw the good in people, and he never had a harsh word to say. Jimmy showed God’s grace everyday through the generosity of his spirit. He was an inspiration as to how we should treat others every day. Jimmy leaves us with a legacy of love and compassion to inspire us all.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife Sandra, daughter Leisel, son Jay, daughter-in-law Heather, Grandson Clay, sister Nancy Butler and her daughter Paige. Memorial services will be held at 2 o’clock on the afternoon of June 9th at God’s Way Church located at 1769 Keeler Mill Road in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to God’s Way Church P.O. Box 1012 Travelers Rest, South Carolina 29690 or visit to make a contribution online.

Matthew 25:21

21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
