Obituary for James Matthew Collins

James Matthew Collins of N. Augusta, SC, formerly of Greenville, SC and Shrewsbury, MA, passed away on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, SC at the age of 47. James had been recently diagnosed in May with pancreatic cancer and despite his courageous efforts faced a battle he could not win.

Born in Worcester, MA he was the son of the late William M. Collins and Joan M. (Prosser). He grew up in Shrewsbury and attended Shrewsbury High School. Upon graduation in 1989, he joined the US Navy as a member of the Seabees with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 74 in Gulfport, MS. He bravely served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He went on to study film making and art design at colleges in San Francisco, California, and Brisbane, Australia before choosing a career in Mechanical Engineering & Design. He was employed by CB & I Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC.

James was a dedicated husband and father and was beloved by his wife and children. He is survived by his wife Lindsay (Collins) Collins, son Alexander (Lex), and daughter Jade. He also leaves three sisters, Carolyn Price (James) of Vancouver, WA, Kathleen Walker of Whitinsville, MA, and Sandra Henderson (Richard) of Concord, NC, eleven nieces and nephews, and one grand nephew.
James loved spending time with his family and his friends. He also enjoyed watching movies, creating costumes and special effects for Halloween and discussing the latest conspiracy theories with his nephews, Zach and Adam Ledford. He was fascinated by the paranormal and led a group on Meetup.com in 2006. This group brought James and Lindsay together resulting in their marriage in 2007.

A memorial service will be held at the Palmetto Mortuary, 1017 Mauldin Road, Greenville SC 29607, on Saturday, July 14th at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the mortuary prior to the service from 1:00-2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family through the established GoFundMe account and/or a donation to The Blood Connection and Shepeared Community Blood Center.

Special Thanks to the staff at McCall House and Open Arms Hospice of Simpsonville, SC for their kindness and support of our family during this difficult time.
