Obituary for Kenneth Sowell

Kenneth  Sowell
Kenneth Edward Sowell was born May 6th, 1949, in Canton, MS. He was the second son of Jimmy and Marilyn Sowell. He attended Durant Elementary School, Durant, MS, and graduated from York High School, York, SC in 1967. He then attended Furman University where he graduated with a BA in Business in 1971. He played football for the Paladins as a defensive back. He was a member of the KA fraternity. He joined the US Navy with the goal of being a Naval Aviator. This was not to be as he was medically discharged with a traumatic brain injury after only a short time. He then attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated with honors. He returned to Greenville, SC, to practice general law in a solo practice for greater than 40 years. He also served as a volunteer at the local fire department.
He is survived by wife Marcia Sowell, brother Dick and spouse Susan and nephew Nick, brother Jimmie and spouse Sherri and nephews Kris and Keith, sister Kathy Lynn Sowell and spouse Gary Boyce. His parents, Jimmie and Marilyn Sowell, are deceased.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at The Palmetto Mortuary at 1017 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC with services following at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children Hospital.
