Obituary for Leonard Duckett Terry Jr.

Leonard Duckett “Buddy” Terry Jr., age 91 of Simpsonville, SC, beloved husband, father and faithful community church member was taken home to be with his Lord in heaven on Monday August 6th 2018. He was born on February 3 1927 in Florence, AL to Wilma C. Jones and Leonard Duckett Terry, Sr. In Atlanta, he attended Tech High School and Georgia Tech University.

He is survived by his loving wife Irene Williams Terry and 3 children and their families, Lucy Irene Terry Roemer (son-in-law Robert B. Roemer, Park City, UT, grand-children Kelly Roemer, Andrew Roemer and their families), Leonard Duckett (Bo) Terry III of Marietta, SC (grandchildren Thomas Terry and Jennifer Edris and her family, Greenville) and Albert Bodie Terry of Simpsonville. He was preceded in death by his son William Stanley Terry, his sister Elise T. Ralls, and his parents.

Leonard served as a Navy radar operator on the USS Tarawa during WWII and then worked in the mechanical engineering field his entire career. He loved golf, fishing, working in the yard and working for JE Sirrine/CRS/Jacobs Engineering. He volunteered for the church and was a facilitator and teacher for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). He lived life in sacrifice for his family, community, church and coworkers. He was known for his lovely smile and humor. “Laugh as much as possible. It's the sweetest thing one can do for oneself & one's fellow human beings." -Maya Angelou. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Memorial contributions can be made to NAMI of Greenville or to Mauldin United Methodist Church.

The Celebration of life will be Friday Aug. 17 at Mauldin United Methodist Church, Visitation at 12:30-2:00 and service at 2:00-3:00.
