Obituary

Obituary for Jane Ellen Stagner

Jane Ellen Stagner, née Markle, of Simpsonville, SC passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the age of 72. Jane was born on January 17, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Leo and Norma Markle. She grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan and was the second of three children; she was predeceased by both her sister (Gayla Schittenhelm) and brother (Walter "Wally" Markle).
Jane married the love of her life, Eugene "Gene" Stagner on September 25, 1966 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Jane was the incredibly proud mother of three daughters and later seven grandchildren. Jane and Gene had 52 1/2 years of happiness, travel and adventures together. Throughout their marriage they visited all 50 US-states and explored much of Europe. They lived in Michigan, Japan, California, Indiana, Arizona, and South Carolina. When her daughters grew, Jane went back to school, graduating from Prescott College. She then began a new career, teaching high school to underprivileged students. Jane later spent her retirement years traveling, spending time with her grandchildren and was active in book and writing clubs, TOPS, and various charity organizations. She started a local ladies club in Oscoda, Michigan called The Daffy Quackers.
Jane overcame a difficult childhood and was living proof that a positive outlook makes all the difference in life. She always had a smile on her face and made friends wherever she went, many of whom lasted a lifetime. Jane loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, writing, and interacting with everyone she knew on Facebook. Jane used Facebook as a platform to encourage everyone she knew with her daily messages of positivity and caring; her daily ritual consisted of waking up and creating a post to usher in the new day. Jane's posts brought smiles and encouragement to many and demonstrated what a beautiful soul she truly has.
Jane's passing leaves a deep hole in the lives of those she touched. She is survived by her husband, Gene; daughters- Amy Stagner of Port Richey, FL, Jennifer Stagner-Mancini (husband Mark) of Fort Mill, SC, and Valerie Stagner-Cox (husband Whitney), of Erie, PA; her grandchildren- Andrew (wife Emily) of Jacksonville, FL, Shamina of Port Richey, FL, Brendan and Caden of Fort Mill, SC, and Logan, Mason, and Reagan of Erie, PA; her nieces- Barbara (Gary) Regal, Julie Iscaro, Kimberly Stagner; her nephew Rick Schittenhelm; her many friends and her faithful golden retriever companion, Barney.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" held in Jane's honor on Saturday, May 18th during the hours of 1:00-4:OOpm at her home in Simpsonville, SC. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in her name.

Jane Markle Stagner, a woman of many talents. A wife, a mother, and a grandmother 7 time over. She was an explorer and a traveler. A teacher for those who would not normally be exposed to someone who cared. She was a closet writer, who dreamed of writing a book. An organizer, and a leader, someone who could show you the way out of adversity because she had been there. A friend to many and someone who shone like a star. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by both her family and all her friends. Job well done, good and faithful servant, now rest in peace.

Jane ~ Your warm smile, your quick sense of humor, your positive outlook on life, and your kind-hearted, caring attitude toward all your friends and acquaintances, will be the things I will miss most about you. You were a woman of so many wonderful attributes! My life was made richer for those 5 years of our friendship in Oscoda MI. Then and even since moving away, via Facebook, you made each person you know feel appreciated and special. Your life had a positive impact on so many! Your memory will live on in my heart, and the hearts of everyone you loved and whom loved you. ~ My sincere condolences to Gene and all of Jane's family. May you find peace in knowing that Jane is also at peace. Sincerely, Penny Lee

Our friend was one in a million... I truly expected her to be with us another 20 years, but God needed another Angel to look down on us, so he chose, Jane. We were indeed, touched by an Angel here on Earth. Rest in the arms of Jesus. Our memories will keep you alive, until we meet again. Love, Dawn McCune Jones LNHS 1965.
